Overview

All Sporting Edge systems include precise microprocessor control of oxygen level, clear LCD displays and safety features and interlocks to protect against misuse. Sporting Edge Compact systems are fully integrated, quiet units suitable for up to 2 people exercising. Standard Systems feature a separate compressor unit, hypoxic module control cabinet. The compressor system may be located outside as long as rain protection is provided. Local programmed control is included and an RS485 interface is available as an option to allow interfacing to a PC for remote monitoring or control.

Sporting Edge equipment can be installed in the majority of locations, and is designed and manufactured in the UK to provide a unique combination of control, safety, performance and back-up, with special emphasis on long life, reliability and serviceability. The equipment complies with all relevant EC Directives and is protected under European patent EP0789546B1 under licence from Colorado Altitude Training, USA.

Effective Control

Standard systems provide precise control of oxygen percentage over a range 13% to 20.9%. Control is maintained to +/-0.1%. Various control options are available including an ‘Extreme’ capacity where lower oxygen levels are required.

All systems have safeguards against misuse (even deliberate misuse) and have local and remote alarm status facilities.

Air quality

Sporting Edge systems are optimised to compressor outputs to provide high flow rates that minimise the build up of CO2 and odours. There is no re-cycling of air and the air quality delivered exceeds HEPA standard, featuring the removal of 99.99% of particles down to 0.01 micron, hydrocarbons, pollen and even bacteria.

Certain cabinets also feature a special silver based finish that kills within 24 hours any bacteria, including MRSA, that should land upon it.

Environmental Chambers

Sporting Edge in association with TISS, provide a range of climate control options that integrate the control of simulated altitude with temperature and humidity. Two ranges are available:-

Extended Ambient provides control ranges of 10 to 30 degC and 20 to 80% RH (50% at 30 deg C)

Extreme provides -20 to +40 deg C and 10 to 95% RH (50% at 40 deg C)

Ambient conditions can often be created in existing rooms, whereas Extreme conditions require the provision of a specialised chamber that is supplied as part of the package.

Train or Sleep at Altitude

Sporting Edge advocate active training sessions that target specific muscle groups in order to maximise the benefits of the hypoxic environment. However, Sporting Edge can also provide virtually silent, non intrusive systems to create simulated altitude conditions in bedrooms, for those wishing to use the ‘Live High, Train Low’ regime, or wishing to re-enforce their active SAT sessions.

Sporting Edge produce a range of standard products with uniquely high outputs that are specifically designed to create controllable hypoxic conditions in exercise chambers, gyms and dormitories - units with output capacities up to 25 times greater than other units on the market. With Sporting Edge equipment there is no need to undergo cumbersome mask systems, or inconvenient tent systems - you have the freedom to move unrestrained within the room, gym or bedroom.

Sporting Edge will provide advice and recommendations relating to your particular training or performance requirements, and will undertake a free site survey to assess site suitability.

"Critical Power for 1 minute went up 33 watts, and CP over 30 minutes went up 25 watts. What I know is I am riding harder, longer and with folks I couldn't stay with on the flats let alone a climb before."

"Haemoglobin has gone up from 14.7 g/dl to 17.6 g/dl, VO2 has increased from 61.7 ml/kg/min to 68.6 ml/kg/min - a 12% improvement. Real world tests (i.e. running at a set speed) have increased as well."
